Modern Religious Experience: Reflection #8 Islam: Two Perspectives

Western point of view:
A Pakistani christian woman, Asia Bibi, was sentenced death for insulting the Prophet Muhammad. Asia Bibi's husband said that his wife and him have never insulted the Prophet Muhammad or Islamic scripture and was accused of blasphemy after getting into an argument with a group of women when she was sent to fetch water. Reports said that she was falsely accused. The human right activists wanted the blasphemy law repealed and it was because the Islamic extremists or people that have personal grudges.

Islamic point of view:
Aasya was sentenced death for blasphemy against the Prophet Muhammad as well as denying the fact she did. She was fined a great amount of money by Muhammad Naveed Iqbal and was almost attacked by Muslim men. The NCJP said that these cases are mostly overturned by the high courts and that locals most of the time pressure the judge by chanting slogans so that they can make the judge do what they think is right.

Compare and contrast:
In the western point of view they say that this woman is innocent while Islamic people think she is guilty. The Islamic people want her dead with no proof, besides people accusing she did. They try to protect their religion by showing how strict the law is and show no sign of understanding Asia/ Aasya view. However, the western point of view showed that the Islamic people had no proof and it was only a grudge from some people or Islamic extremists.
